Congress has slammed Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his reported claim that Rahul Gandhi did not help Yavatmal’s Kalawati Bandurkar and that it was PM Modi who provided her with ration, electricity connection and a house.
During a speech in Lok Sabha on the no-confidence motion brought by INDIA alliance, Amit Shah took a swipe at Rahul Gandhi over helping poor widow from Maharashtra. Congress has now released a purported video of Kalwati Bandurkar where she said Rahul Gandhi helped her and that what Amit Shah said in Parliament was ‘false’.
Kalawati hit the headline after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited Kalawati after her husband died by suicide in Yavatmal district of Maharashtra during the 2008 agrarian crisis.
What Kalawati says on Amit Shah’s claim
Meanwhile, Congress claimed to have exposed Home Minister Amit Shah’s assertion on Kalawati by releasing her video. Congress challenges Amit Shah's claim that PM Modi, not Rahul Gandhi, aided Kalawati Bandurkar. Video evidence contradicts Shah's statement, confirming Rahul's support for ration, electricity, and housing. Shah's remark was made during a Lok Sabha speech.“Even before to Modi, Rahul Gandhi extended his support and provided us with financial help. It was under his guidance that I began receiving ration, and he also helped us get an electricity connection for our house. The approval for the house I currently reside in was also granted by him. While I didn’t acquire it immediately, I eventually took possession through Gharakul scheme in 2013-14,” Kalawati said.
What Amit Shah said in Parliament
“In this house, there is an individual who has been launched 13 times in politics but he has failed all the times. I remember such endeavor when this individual visited a poor widow named Kalawati. But what did he do for her? It was, in fact, the Modi government that extended its support by ensuring her access to housing, ration, and electricity,” Amit Shah said while hitting out at Rahul Gandhi.
